I’m so delighted to be part of this group show highlighting the power of art and small local actions that we can take to respond to climate change :) Very solarpunk-adjacent! I wasn’t sure I was going tomake it to the opening reception due to work, but I ended up being able to catch this panel that was super inspiring! VIDEO HERE
Per curators Edith and Jolly de Guzman aka dearantler: Inspired by Woody Guthrie’s folk anthem, the exhibit presents the works of 39 artists and weaves a collection of paintings, photographs, sculptures, and video works that interpret the environment, climatic changes, explore solutions, and share visions for a more sustainable future — with a special focus on the power of local, individual action.
Personally, I was really moved by the fabric art piece by A. Laura Brody, Phoenix Rising, which you can see behind the panelists in the pic above. She made a resplendent robe out of scraps of clothing that were donated to victims of the Eaton and Palisades fires in 2025. Apparently much of the clothing that was donated, while well-intentioned, was actually in poor condition and pretty unusable, but in her words, “at least we can make something beautiful out of it.” 🐦🔥
I have 3 paintings in the show, which are connected in some way or another to environmental disasters (no walk today, island manapua factory) or envisioning a more sustainable relationship to our local nature (seeing potential, which was also the first installment of the print club). I’m happy that no walk today has been claimed, allowing me to send some of the proceeds to EYCEJ, who are fighting for a safer & healthier environment for communities in Southeast LA.
As far as I’m aware the two others are still available. More details below from the catalog. :)
I am going to try to make it to the closing, so please reach out if you would like to meet up! :)
